Deadpool, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, is a Marvel character appearing prominently in the X-Men film universe. Making his first major appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and then reprising the role in a more comic-accurate fashion in his own films. His real name is Wade Wilson.
Wilson is a former Special Forces operative who, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, undergoes a experimental procedure to cure himself.
While the experiment grants him regenerative abilities that cure his cancer, it also leaves him severely disfigured. Gaining enhanced strength, agility, and an accelerated healing factor, he adopts the moniker Deadpool. He becomes a mercenary who frequently breaks the fourth wall.
